The Green City at Alantic Station, Atlanta Ga.
This urban design project was geared towards redeveloping the brown field behind the Atlantic Station property as a mixed use near 1oo% true green city. This New 'Smart Growth' Embedded City would promote a healthy environmentally friendly city and an economically sustainable urban environment.
Cumberland Island Nature Preserve
The Cumberland Island Nature Preserve is designed as a high performance nature museum, instituting simple passive design techniques coupled with technology. By incorporating methods of simple sustainable design, like the collection of rain water for irrigation of the green roof and recycling of grey water for restroom usage, as well as high tech methods like the incorporation of the Quiet Revolution 5 wind turbine system, the building begins to incorporate its self into the site as an organism rather than a building.
The SkyCity
The Sky City was designed as a reaction to the sprawling nature of an urban area. The design encompasses all necessities’ of the user including Market, Office, Residential, Recreation, Transportation, and Green Space. The space frame Wall holds the residential section of the building. Each unit is arranged similar to that of a row house, having a front and rear entry and breezeway between. It also incorporates high performance features and sustainable design techniques.
ETHOSphere
The ETHOSPHERE is a media center/library. The paperless section of the library system is accessed by portable tablets and personal laptops. There is no main computer lab in order to encourage the users to experience the different spaces throughout the building wirelessly. The building cools itself down by capturing the wind from the south (the large wooden vents) and pulling it through the building. Joint Project with Jon Couch of Black Box Architecture.
Savannah Row House Residence
The row houses are designed as a modern interpretation of the brick row houses so common in the Savannah Ga. area. With a residential top section of the building and store front below, a strong live/work setting is achieved, allowing for future community growth.
The {s.e.e.d.}Shelter:
An Investigation Into the Design of Non-Site Specific
Developmental Prefabricated Disaster Relief Shelters
Over the past few years numerous natural disasters have hit the United States leaving in the aftermath people homeless, and in abject poverty, struggling to meet even the most basic of needs (food, water, shelter, and clothing). Most recently the catastrophic hurricanes hitting New Orleans, and Texas have devastated costal areas. Our country has sent less than quality shelter at a slower than acceptable rate and even the most basic needs are not met. In this thesis I propose designing an emergency shelter that provides the most basic human needs, like water and shelter, to people suffering after hurricanes along the eastern coastline and eventually abroad. These sustainable structures will be produced quickly in a non-costly pre-manufactured fashion, and will be adaptable based on needs of the area suffering. The {s.e.e.d.} Shelter will allow for the growth of a new structure on an existing site, developing the area and re instituting the sense of place for families and communities after a disaster.
Ocean View Villas, Entry in The Green Home Design Competition, Tripoli, Libya.
Overall the Ocean View Villas project was to provide Tripoli with a strong suggestion of what could be. Creating a sustainable town home community provides a jumping off point for other sustainable projects. The units, as a whole, lower the area's carbon footprint and help to evolve the architectural language of the city of Tripoli. This new development then becomes the bonding element in the new sustainable growth of the surrounding area.
Hand Rendering and Architectural Sketching
As a fine artist first I have always been very excited to work with the materials of the masters. Weather its pen, ink, paint or marker, just getting dirty on a drafting table makes everything worth while.
Being an art student first, I have a passion for the classical arts and have developed a special dedication to architecture over the years. I have been exploring my own style evolving and refining it each time I involve my self in a new project. A beautiful piece of architecture draws from all facets of life and I use every tool available tool to create an innovative design solution for the project at hand. My talents in the arts range from painting, and pen-and-ink, however this does not stop me from taking advantage of the many digital mediums available. I have worked with most of the digital design software, in both the architectural world as well as the industrial design field, to explore and constantly and test its boundaries opening up the potential of each program and possibly refine my own design method in the process. I am hard working and tackle every project with the utmost enthusiasm and dedication.
